Sometimes the best laid plans just don’t work out. We were thrown a curve ball just weeks before our live event. Ducky Derby went virtual this year due to the Friendship Gardens closure. The Omega Nu ladies are resilient; we were able to change gears!
Our chairmen and committees had worked really hard and hoped to have a wonderful day in the park.
We were sorry to disappoint the community and all the students who look forward to volunteering at this event. They rely on this event to fulfill their required community service.
We would like to thank everyone who donated prizes, adopted ducks or became sponsors. We can’t have a Ducky Derby without you!
In the end, we made a record amount of money. We raised very close to $91,000 (net). All this money goes back to the Santa Cruz community. We give charity grants, teacher grants and scholarship grants.
Please visit our website at duckyderbysantacruz.org to see our charitable giving reports.

The Sentinel welcomes your letters to the editor. Letters should be short, no more than 175 words. We do not accept anonymous letters. Letter-writers should include their full name as well as a street address and telephone number. We don’t publish those details in the newspaper, but need the information for verification purposes. Occasionally, we reject letters simply because we’ve had so many on the same subject. Submit your letters online at www.santacruzsentinel.com/submit-letters.
