LIVE OAK — A child riding an electric dirt bike this week and their passenger were treated for injuries after a collision with a car at Capitola Road and 17th Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, two juveniles without helmets were riding a pedal-less Talaria e-dirtbike in the area around 4:15 p.m. Thursday. One of the riders was taken to an in-county hospital for treatment of minor injuries while the other was transported to an out-of-county trauma center for major injuries, according to the CHP.
Electric dirt bikes, considered motorcycles, are generally not regarded as legal for street use without traffic safety modifications, Department of Motor Vehicles registration, a helmet, proof of insurance and a motorcycle driver’s license.
CHP Officer Israel Murillo said the crash remained under investigation Friday and that it was unclear if any citations or arrests would be handed out.
