MidPen Housing’s Sparrow Terrace affordable housing project is nearing completion on Miles Lane near Freedom Boulevard in Watsonville.
Sparrow Terrace is a collaboration between MidPen Housing and Encompass Community Services that aims to address the community’s pressing needs for affordable housing and expanded behavioral health services. The project, slated for completion this summer, will offer 72 affordable rental homes in six buildings, including a community building, and will be complemented with green spaces and a revitalized wetlands habitat. Thirty-five of the homes will be set aside for farmworker families, and six apartments will serve formerly homeless individuals.
Since its founding in 1970, MidPen Housing has created more than 130 communities in Northern California with more than 9,000 homes for low-income families, seniors and special needs individuals.
Encompass, which will be coordinating the mental health services at the site, is a nonprofit that has been serving Santa Cruz County residents since 1973. Encompass offers about 40 programs countywide providing services in behavioral health, family and social well-being, early childhood education, housing and more.
