SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a man killed in a solo Memorial Day weekend accident.

Adam Donoghue, 45, of Santa Cruz County, was traveling northbound on Graham Hill Road near Deer Path Road shortly before 3 a.m., May 26, when he crashed into a tree on the side of the road.

Donoghue, who died at the scene, was ejected from the 2009 Nissan Altima he was driving, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP is investigating the crash’s cause and it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors.

During that same holiday weekend, the CHP reported issuing 192 speeding citations out of 373 handed out across Santa Cruz County. Officers also served 131 verbal warnings and made eight driving-under-the-influence arrests. The agency confiscated two unregistered firearms during the three-day special enforcement period.
