WATSONVILLE — In a statement this week, the Pajaro Valley Unified School District corrected earlier statements that a contractor charged with child molestation and briefly employed by the district had no interaction with its students.
“Since our most recent communication regarding the arrest of a consultant, individuals have come forward with information regarding the interactions that Mr. Joshua Alfaro had with the PVUSD community,” Superintendent Heather Contreras wrote in a prepared statement Tuesday.
A district spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
The district employed Alfaro, founder of the East Salinas nonprofit music program Alisal Community Arts Network, as a contractor from May 22-24. In a letter to the community issued Sunday, Contreras wrote that Alfaro visited Pajaro Middle School, Lakeview Elementary School and Pajaro Valley High School to speak with band directors about needed musical instruments. Alfaro’s contract was severed once the district learned of his arrest.
Alfaro, 42, pleaded not guilty last week to Monterey County District Attorney’s Office charges that he sexually assaulted three girls under the age of 14 in the time period between 2018 and April.
