The Seabright State Beach cliffside blooms this week as volunteer Shahe Moutafian removes a dead plant from a restoration area below East Cliff Drive.
A group of volunteers that Groundswell Coastal Ecology Director Bill Henry calls “mountain goats” due their tenacious efforts climbing the hillside, have been hard at work every Monday morning, transforming the beach “from a desert of ice plant into a pollinator and bird friendly haven.”
More than 2,000 volunteers and students from four Santa Cruz city schools have participated in the 11-year restoration effort.
Henry said, “Seabright Beach is in full bloom and is an inspiring story of a transformative cultural shift to active stewardship.”
