Letter | Quick county response to issues at Corcoran Lagoon

The public can often feel cynical about what our local government and civil servants do to help our community, especially in times of scarce resources and political divisions.

I wanted to acknowledge Jesse Williams, the County Parks superintendent; and Kristina Glavis from Manu Koenig’s office.

Recently the protected habitat on the lagoon side of Corcoran Lagoon has become an extension of the beach. Kids on electric bikes have been riding in the lagoon and people have been walking or walking their dogs there trampling on the grass areas where snowy plovers nest.

The signs that previously alerted people to stay off had washed out in the big storms over the last year. I reached out to Kristina who alerted Jesse who got signs up immediately so that the sheriff could enforce.

I was so impressed by their quick response. Corcoran Lagoon is a special asset in our community and it does not take much to cause damage that drastically affects this resource. It is nice when our public servants listen and respond to community concerns.

The Sentinel welcomes your letters to the editor. Letters should be short, no more than 175 words. We do not accept anonymous letters. Letter-writers should include their full name as well as a street address and telephone number. We don’t publish those details in the newspaper, but need the information for verification purposes. Occasionally, we reject letters simply because we’ve had so many on the same subject. Submit your letters online at www.santacruzsentinel.com/submit-letters.
