SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz County Branch of the NAACP will commemorate the life and legacy of iconic civil rights activist Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. later in January with a march down Pacific Avenue and a resource fair at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium.

The People’s March for the Dream and commemorative event will begin rain or shine at 10 a.m. Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, at Pacific Avenue and Cathcart Street where marchers will gather before making their way downtown.

After the march, the local NAACP branch will hold a resource fair from 11 a.m. to noon at the Civic Auditorium with a talk from the event’s keynote speaker, Brotherhood of Elders Network Chief Network Officer Gregory Hodge.

According to the event announcement, the Jan. 20 date, “holds dual significance as both the federal holiday honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and a moment to reflect on the importance of safeguarding and advancing civil rights.”

The march and resource fair will celebrate King’s message of equality, justice and nonviolence. The Santa Cruz County NAACP invites all community organizations and individuals who support King’s dream to gather and walk together Jan. 20.
