As October unfolds, I’m excited to share a number of special events and updates with you!
Watsonville held the Downtown Candy Crawl Saturday while local nonprofits hosted a trunk-or-treat event. The Watsonville Brillante ribbon cutting also took place Saturday with performances, food trucks, art vendors and more to mark this exciting moment for our downtown.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to invite you to the 7th annual Día de Muertos Festival in partnership with Watsonville Film Festival. From 4-9 p.m. on Nov. 1, come to the City Plaza to honor this beautiful tradition with altars, live music, dance and activities for all ages. Go to watsonvillefilmfest.org/dia-de-muertos to learn more.
In civic news, I encourage everyone to mark Election Day, Nov. 5, on your calendars. Early voting options are available at three convenient ballot drop-off locations, or you can vote in person at the City Clerk’s Office. Let’s make sure our voices are heard.

Finally, I’m proud to announce that Watsonville recently received the Helen Putnam Award for Excellence from the League of California Cities for our Opportunity to Work Program. This recognition highlights the positive impact we’re making in providing our residents with the skills and opportunities needed for long-term success.
As always, I’m grateful for our incredible community, and I look forward to seeing you all at these events. Stay connected with us through our social media or check out the latest Our Town Newsletter for more information on upcoming events, traffic updates and our holiday collection schedule.
Thank you, and let’s continue building a bright future together!
Vanessa Quiroz-Carter is the mayor of Watsonville.
