In an Aug. 10 article, the Sentinel pointed out the $204,700 AIPAC contribution to Jimmy Panetta – the first installment of which occurred on Dec. 31, 2023. Less than a month later, Panetta signed onto an open letter to Secretary Blinken calling South Africa’s genocide case against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) “unfounded” “defamatory” “an act of hostility.” Three days later, the ICJ found South Africa’s accusations of genocide plausible.

With a child killed every 10 minutes, Gaza Strip schools, hospitals, residences, places of worship flattened, and systematic deprivation of food, water, medicine, the International Criminal Court declared Netanyahu a war criminal. While more than half of Democrats boycotted his congressional speech, our representative attended and applauded.

Panetta’s office invites constituents to meet with Jimmy, despite the fact individuals and community groups have met with him, written, signed petitions for over a decade, and he hasn’t budged in his unquestioning support of the Israeli government’s genocidal violence, illegal occupation, land grab.

Ignoring the will of his constituents, Jimmy Panetta has blood on his hands.

The Sentinel welcomes your letters to the editor. Letters should be short, no more than 175 words. We do not accept anonymous letters. Letter-writers should include their full name as well as a street address and telephone number. We don’t publish those details in the newspaper, but need the information for verification purposes. Occasionally, we reject letters simply because we’ve had so many on the same subject. Submit your letters online at www.santacruzsentinel.com/submit-letters.
