Madalyn Price wins two events at USLA National Lifeguard Championships | Local Roundup

Capitola Beach Lifeguard Association’s Madalyn Price took first place in two events at the USLA National Lifeguard Championships, which ran Wednesday through Friday in South Padre Island, Texas.

Price took first in the Open Women’s Beach Flags and 90-meter Sprint.

Sae Ackerstein of Santa Cruz Surf Lifesaving Association took second place in Open Women’s Board Relay, ninth in the Board Race and 10th in the IronWoman and Surf Ski.

Golf

Santa Cruz City Amateur: Rancho Santa Fe’s Jed Dy took the first round lead in the championship flight at the Santa Cruz City Amateur at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Saturday.

Dy, a junior on George Washington University’s golf team out of Makati, Philippines, opened with 66.

East Garrison’s Billy Moon is second at 67.

Alaric Mercie De Soultrait, a San Jose State University junior who hails from Biarritz, France, is tied for third with San Francisco’s Hem Singh at 69.

San Francisco’s Zac Bischoff, a Soquel High alum, Santa Cruz’s Kyle Davis, and San Diego’s Brian Walker are tied for fifth at even-par 70.

Santa Cruz’s Neil Ostermann, the 2022 champion, is one of three players tied at 71. Defending champion Peter Wood of Santa Cruz opened with 75.

Michele Thiltgen leads the Ladies (net) flight with a 68.

Vacaville’s Bob Johnson lead the Senior flight at 71. Santa Cruz’s Rich Gleghorn shot 74 and leads the Super Senior flight.

The championship flight leaders group tees off Sunday at 9:06 a.m.
